Biography of Karen Nau
Karen Nau:
Teacher, former Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Parent and Community
Leader, City Council Member; working for a balance between economic development and the
preservation of Petalumas history and traditions.
Karen Nau has been a resident
of Petaluma for 36 years. Karen has been a longtime volunteer and supporter of Petaluma
Adobe State Historic Park. As a teenager, she worked with the Old Adobe Association and
helped plan Petaluma's celebration of the nation's bicentennial. Her later efforts to keep
the Petaluma Adobe open earned her the Good Egg Award.
Karen has also been involved
with Heritage Homes of Petaluma, which works to preserve the city's rich architectural
legacy and gives residents a chance to appreciate the diverse styles that create
Petaluma's character.
As a former member of the
Parks, Music and Recreation Commission, Karen worked to strengthen senior programs and
sports for youth and adults, including soccer, softball, swimming and basketball.
Karen teaches Sunday school
at St. James Church and was very active with PTA and site councils when her children were
in school. As a pre-kindergarten teacher, Karen has good listening skills, which is a key
requirement of being a good city councilmember.
Karen has three children:
Sebastian, 25 years old, is a local musician following in his late father's footsteps.
Alison, 23 years old, is a local Kindergarten teacher following in her mother,
grandmother and aunt's footsteps educating young people. Marshall is 21 years old
and is a full time student and works at Staples in Petaluma.
